How the Wealthfront Referral APY Boost Works

Updated

A temporary APY boost increases the annualized rate earned on eligible cash for a limited period. The practical value depends on how much money you keep in the account and how long it stays there.

The Wealthfront Cash referral offer we reviewed on September 14, 2026 lists a 0.75 percentage-point boost for three months on up to $150,000 for eligible first-time Wealthfront clients. That page links to the reviewed promotion and explains how to claim it. We checked the published terms; we did not complete a new-account redemption.

Annualized does not mean paid upfront

If the base APY is 3.30%, adding 0.75 percentage points gives 4.05% APY during the boost. Both figures describe annualized yields. You do not receive a full year of extra interest from holding money for three months.

The base APY can change. Check the total rate shown in your account instead of assuming a previously advertised total remains fixed.

Estimate the extra interest

For a quick comparison, use:

Eligible balance × boost as a decimal × fraction of a year.

Using the reviewed 0.75 percentage-point boost for a full three months:

Balance held throughoutApproximate extra interest
$1,000$1.88
$10,000$18.75
$50,000$93.75
$150,000$281.25

For example: $10,000 × 0.0075 × 3/12 = $18.75. These are simple estimates of extra interest, not total interest or guaranteed payouts. The actual result depends on the interest calculation, daily balances, exact dates, compounding, and applicable terms. Balances above the promotional cap do not earn this boost on the excess.

Track the start and end dates

The reviewed referral FAQ says the three-month boost starts once your Cash Account is opened and funded. Record the start and end dates displayed in the account; the date you first clicked a referral link is not a dependable substitute.

At the end of the boost, the applicable rate changes to the current base APY plus any other increase you independently qualify for. If the purpose of moving cash was the temporary promotion, compare the rates again at that point.

Keep the different promotions separate

Wealthfront’s referral page also describes an investing deposit match and an ongoing 0.25 percentage-point Cash Account APY increase for eligible clients who meet its direct-deposit and investing requirements. Those rewards involve different conditions.

For example, the reviewed ongoing increase requires at least $1,000 in qualifying recurring monthly direct deposits and a funded eligible investing account. Opening only a Cash Account does not by itself meet both requirements. Consult the current terms before counting a combination of rewards.

Compare the total outcome

Consider the underlying account rate, how much cash you actually need to move, transfer timing, and what your existing account already earns. The extra interest from the referral is only one part of the comparison. A promotion is most useful when the account already fits how you plan to use your money.
